Zoo Tampa is taking steps to create exhibit experiences that highlight the history and heritage of Florida’s iconic animals. Many of these animals – once in danger of extinction – have a place in our environment as well as our culture. The question of the human and animal connection is central to explaining the conflicting relationship we have with some animals. For hundreds if not thousands of years, humans have adored them, feared them, worshipped them, needed them, or exploited them. The research will be used to create interactive and interpretive signage, explorative cubby stations and introductory stories that weave the story of human population expansion alongside diminishing wildlife numbers.
