In the heart of Florida’s attraction mecca, this museum gives residents and tourists of Kissimmee and Osceola County an opportunity to explore its history, heritage, and natural resources. The exhibition reflects on the interrelationship of people and the land, and encourages visitors to get outdoors and experience all that Osceola County has to offer. The major themes feature immersive murals or structures, taxidermy, life-size “characters”, theatrical lighting, hands-on activities, and multimedia to enrich the interpretation. The Lakefront section features real “characters” – African American cowboy, Lawrence Silas, and wealthy wildlife advocate, Minnie Willson. Their audio stories relate their very different personal experiences, but similar emotional connections to the land.
