Working with The Alliance for Weedon Island Archaeological Research and Education and Phoenix Rising exhibit fabricators, the team assessed the critical needs of the 40-foot dugout canoe. As the longest canoe yet found in Florida – this unique find lends itself to a great story of its discovery, recovery and conservation as well as the its connections to nature and the local cultures. The only location to display the canoe is in the hallway, which led to a host of design challenges. By numbering key elements to highlight along the reading rail this encourages visitors to walk the entire length and discover some of the unique features of this ancient canoe.
